The best vegan DC restaurants offer gourmet vegetarian recipes that are delicious for both vegans and anyone else. This includes those who might be dating vegetarians. Washington DC is full of ethnic food restaurants that are some of the best places to eat in the city, especially for vegans.
While these restaurants are not marketed specifically to vegans or vegetarians, some of their menu is vegan anyway. These restaurants include and Indian buffet called Nirvana at 1810 K St. NW, Mandu, a Korean restaurant at 1805 18th St. NW, and Dukem, an Ethiopian restaurant at 1114 U St. NW.
Long time vegan DC residents, those on a vegan weight loss plan, or looking into vegan health food have more than enough to eat in the city.
The following restaurants, though, are specifically marketed to vegans and vegetarians, featuring specialized vegan cooks.
Vegan DC
Start the day off at Asylum in Adams Morgan at 2471 18th St. NW for an amazing vegan brunch. They also have vegan dinner options. While the service can be slow sometimes, they more than make up for it with tofu "scrambled eggs", vegan omelettes, "bacon" made with a tempeh recipe, and more. Get there early because vegan DC residents flock to this place every weekend, and there is often a line. A tofu scramble ($7.95), and vegan pancakes ($6.95) would be more than filling for both breakfast and lunch.
Best Places to Eat in DC
Going south from Adams Morgan, take in some of the sites in the nation's capital. Finish off morning site seeing at the White House, and then walk just a couple blocks to Java Green at 1020 19th St. NW. Everything is at the least vegetarian, but most is vegan. For those dating vegetarians, or friends of vegans, this place is perfect because they offer so many mock-meats. There are many Korean inspired rice and noodle dishes as well. Along with the amazing meals, their vegan cooks prepare delicious desserts as well. Cookies, brownies, and cakes will force any diner to save room for more. The vegan burger ($6.75) and spicy curry noodle soup ($9.00) are delicious.

Don't eat too many snacks at Java Green, though, because the last stop, in Columbia Heights, is called Sticky Fingers. Located at 1370 Park Road NW, Sticky Fingers Bakery offers yogurts, ice "creams" sticky buns, and now the menu features savory dishes like vegan chili cheese dogs and macaroni and cheese. Sticky Fingers is extremely popular, so much so in fact that when some Koreans visited DC, they visited the restaurant, then decided they had to have it in Korea too. Now there are two branches of Sticky Fingers, one in DC and one in Seoul. Grab some of the cupcakes ($3 each) and a brownie ($2.50) for dessert!
Washington DC has so much to offer in terms of history, but it is also a paradise for vegans.
